Great meeting today – plenty of ideas and at least a dozen actions to take forward! Always a pleasure working in partnership and seeing what we can achieve together. 🏠🤝

I’ve grappled with where to post my mayoral posts, as the mayoralty is non political, as it should be. So I’m going to post all of it on my personal page as oppose to the councillors one.

If you cast your mind back to when I worked in the homeless sector I set up meetings with all homeless service providers to discuss collaborative working.

When I was asked to be a patron of Jericho House along with former Mayor Potter and Ian Morgan, I suggested collaborating with Derventio Housing.

In my simple mind it worked something like this. When people have recovered in Jericho they move on to Derventio and, if people in Derventio need more support they can move to Jericho and so forth.

Of course once we get the professionals to sit down things move on at a pace.
Derventio are going to help Jericho to get registered social landlord status, offer support to referral of people between their services and when people have fully recovered giving interviews to get them back in to full time employment!

Ged and I sat there just gobsmacked at how much these two wonderful services are going to work together on fantastic outcomes for people.

Homelessness, drug rehabilitation and collaborative working are things very close to my heart and they will be the theme of my mayoral years.

Sorry for the long post but it’s something I’m really passionate about.

These boots were given to a resident in Warwick to help him start a new job and take positive steps forward in his life. 😊🥾

The boots were purchased through the Sylvester Fund – a special fund created in memory of a former resident who generously gifted us money to support others on their journey in life.

🦋 Growing Lives & the Big Butterfly Count! 🦋

This summer, participants at Growing Lives (Derventio Housing Trust's recovery project) joined Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count – a nationwide survey helping track the health of our environment.

Their hidden garden in Ilkeston was the perfect spot! In just 15 peaceful minutes the participants spotted species, like Large Whites and Red Admirals.

Butterflies are more than beautiful – they’re a powerful symbol of transformation and new beginnings, reminding us that Recovery is possible and growth takes time. 🌳

It was a wonderful way to enjoy nature, practise mindfulness, and spend time outdoors. Some participants loved it so much they’re planning their own counts in local parks and gardens! 🎉

Growing Lives is available to people Derventio Housing Trust already works with and people who live in Derbyshire who are in drug or alcohol recovery. Please get in touch to request a referral form. They can also offer taster days to help people see what the service is like!
