More pictures from our ‘Sitting in the Landscape’ project, a series of workshops taking place in the Summer and Autumn of 2026.

Participants at our Growing Lives centre with recent experience of homelessness are working with sculptor Ruth Lewis-Jones and photographer Jon Legge to create and document artifacts using natural and found materials in various outdoor locations around Ilkeston, in this case Shipley Country Park.

The project is intended to improve mental health, engage participants in the arts and to promote the work of Growing Lives and Derventio Housing Trust. It will also promote group working and allowing participants to share skills and life experiences.

With thanks to the Arts Council England for their generous support.

These pictures show some of the first work produced via our ‘Sitting in the Landscape’ project. This is a series of workshops to be delivered in the Summer and Autumn of 2026.

Working with participants at Derventio Housing Trust’s Growing Lives centres with recent experience of homelessness the project will work with sculptor Ruth Lewis-Jones and photographer Jon Legge to create and document artifacts using natural and found materials in various outdoor locations around Ilkeston. Photography will be used to document this process as the sculpture element of the work, owing to the materials used and their site-specific nature means they can’t easily be exhibited.

The project is intended to improve mental health, engage participants in the arts and to promote the work of Growing Lives and Derventio Housing Trust. It will also promote group working and allowing participants to share skills and life experiences.

With thanks to the Arts Council England for their generous support, and the team at Shipley Country Park.

We recently hosted two sessions in Warwick and Derby for residents in our housing to give their views about supported housing.

At Derventio Housing Trust we are proud to be supporting Homeless Link, the national membership charity for organisations working directly with people who become homeless in England. They work to make services better and campaign for policy change that will help end homelessness.

Homeless Link is currently conducting research to explore the lived experience views of those that are living in Temporary Accommodation, Supported Housing and those that are experiencing Rough Sleeping.

Local authorities are required by the new Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act (SHROA) to develop their supported living strategies. To support this, we asked a number of current residents at Derventio properties in Warwick and Derby to share their own invaluable living experiences, to help shape this review of supported living.

This guidance has been developed to reflect the realities councils face in overseeing the complex and often fragmented supported housing market.

The guidance draws on examples of existing good practice and sets out clear steps that councils can take immediately, as well as actions to consider in the short, medium and long term.

Supported housing provides a vital safety net for individuals with complex needs, including people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, care leavers, people with disabilities, and those with mental health or substance misuse needs. While many providers deliver high-quality services that enable residents to live more independently and avoid crisis, some have been found to exploit regulatory gaps. The SHROA introduces new powers and responsibilities for local authorities (LAs), including a licensing regime that will bring greater clarity and consistency to standards across the sector.

Being a Homeless Link member, ensures that our voice is heard at a national, regional and local level and helps connect our people with those across the homelessness sector, and help us to shape the future of our homeless services across the areas we cover.

We would like to thank Homeless Link for this opportunity to help inform this important work, and all our participants for taking part and reliving what can often be uncomfortable experiences.

More information on Homeless Link and their work can be found at https://homeless.org.uk
