Former Derventio resident taking on epic bike ride to raise money

Joe Hodgkins, a former resident of Derventio Housing Trust is planning an epic bike ride from Land’s End to John o’Groats to raise money for Derventio’s Sylvester’s Fund.

Joe is planning to cycle the famous route, which traverses the length of Great Britain, in April 2024. Joe is a keen hill walker and hiker and is planning to average 60 miles a day on a mix of cycle networks and roads. He says:

In late 2019 I was in a difficult position in life and Derventio helped me out massively by finding me accommodation in Stafford. I would love to try and support them by trying to raise them some money through this challenge.

The money raised will go to Sylvester’s Fund, which gives small grants so people can buy essential items they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. Every penny will make a direct difference to people who are affected by homelessness and facing other challenges such as poor mental health and isolation.
