Derventio contributes to citywide report on men’s sexual health in Derby
Derventio has contributed to a new report examining men’s sexual health needs in Derby, following a project we delivered with residents last year.
The Men’s Sexual Health Grant programme, delivered by Community Action and funded by Public Health through the Derby Health Inequalities Partnership, supported local voluntary and community organisations to encourage open, stigma free conversations with men about sexual health.
As part of the programme, Derventio delivered a series of workshops with 14 male residents living in our Derby supported housing. The sessions were person centred, creating a safe and respectful environment where participants were only expected to discuss topics they felt comfortable sharing.
Through these conversations, residents spoke about how they access sexual health services, the barriers they experience and what would make services feel more approachable and inclusive. Discussions included STI testing and treatment, PrEP and PEP medication, condom use and wider sexual wellbeing.
The insights gathered through our workshops have now been included in a citywide report. The findings will help build a clearer understanding of the specific health needs of men in Derby and support local services to become more inclusive, accessible and responsive.
By ensuring the voices of people living in supported housing are heard, this project highlights the importance of involving those with lived experience in shaping local health services.
