Celebrating our apprentices

This week (3-9 February 2020) is National Apprenticeship Week – a great opportunity for us to celebrate the people who are currently completing apprenticeships with Derventio.

Beth and Jed have both made a big impact and we are proud to be part of their journeys. We asked them to share a bit about their experiences and what they hope to achieve through their apprenticeships.

My role is a Finance Assistant working as part of Derventio’s finance department. On a day to day basis this is what I do: monitor the accounts email for Derventio; write cheques to pay suppliers; manage petty cash (which involves reconcilliations); prepare BACS payments and any other jobs which get passed onto me. Monthly, I prepare Council Tax and ensure all of the TV licences have been updated for our properties and in any free time I assist with the month end process.

I am proud to have passed my first exam whilst on my apprenticeship with Derventio and hope to pass all of the rest coming up in the future. I hope to complete my Level 3 AAT apprenticeship in Accountancy to a high standard which will then allow me to progress to work towards my Level 4 AAT qualification. In the future I would like to complete either ACCA or CIMA which are both degree qualifications.

I’m an IT Apprentice that does system administration, including day to day running of the company, internal IT support and general IT security. I am very proud of a lot of work I do, most notably internal support. It’s great to get instant feedback from my colleagues especially when it’s good.

As of yet, I am still unsure of my long term career goals but over the next few years, I intend to stay doing the same or similar work until I build up a good knowledge of system administration.
