A fresh start for former residents

We’ve recently celebrated several residents moving on from Derventio’s supported housing into independent living. Each move is a proud and emotional milestone, marking the beginning of a new chapter and the progress people have made towards a brighter, more stable future.

Don, one of the residents who has just moved into his own home, shared his experience:

I came to Derventio as a safe and happy environment. I felt supported. My support worker, Lee, helped me sort out the things I found most difficult. Now I’ve reached the point where I can move into my own place – and again, I’ve received great support. So thank you. I guess it’s onwards and upwards from here. Thank you for the support.

To help ease the transition, each person has been gifted a Home Sweet Home box. Developed in collaboration with Colleague Box, these thoughtful starter packs contain everyday essentials like a mug and hot drink supplies, washing-up liquid, cloths, bodywash, laundry tablets and a handy multi-tool. Each box also includes personal touches, such as a keyring with a torch, a pen and a handwritten card from the staff member who supported them during their time at Derventio.

Many residents have also benefitted from Sylvester’s Fund, which offers financial support for items that help build confidence and achieve goals. One of the most common – and appreciated – uses of the fund is to purchase essential household items when making the move to independent living.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who has taken this step, and we wish them every success in their new homes.
