Derventio launches Christmas Box Appeal to spread warmth and hope this festive season

Christmas is often a time associated with warmth, comfort and togetherness, yet for many people living in supported housing it can feel anything but. Instead of celebration, the season can trigger painful memories of broken family relationships, lost homes and deep loneliness.

As one resident told us:

The worst thing is looking through the windows at everybody else’s Christmas.

For people who have experienced homelessness, the festive period can be an especially difficult reminder of what is missing. While many households enjoy food, gifts and companionship, others face Christmas with very little comfort or joy.

Derventio Housing Trust’s Christmas Box Appeal aims to help change that.

A donation of £14 will provide a festive gift box filled with seasonal treats. It may seem like a small gesture, but the impact is powerful. Each box offers a moment of cheer and shows someone that they have not been forgotten.

Thanks to the generosity of our supplier, Spicers of Hythe, who are providing a special discount, each donation goes even further. Their support means more people can receive a gift at a time of year that can feel overwhelming or isolating.

Across our supported housing services, people of all ages are working hard to rebuild their lives. They are recovering from trauma or poor health, taking steps towards education or employment, and regaining stability after homelessness. Small acts of kindness can help lift spirits, ease loneliness and offer encouragement when it is needed most.

Each gift box will be delivered by staff who know residents well, ensuring they reach someone who truly needs a lift at a difficult time.

Last Christmas, hundreds of people were surprised and delighted to receive their boxes. Many told us how much it meant simply to know that someone cared.
