Catherine Atkinson MP highlights Derventio’s work with veterans in Parliament
Catherine Atkinson MP for Derby North has praised the work of Derventio Housing Trust during a House of Commons debate on support for veterans.
Speaking during the debate, Ms Atkinson shared the story of Richard, a veteran currently living in Derventio-supported property, which was specifically set up to benefit forces veterans.
Ms Atkinson recently met with Richard to hear firsthand about his experiences and the unique challenges faced by veterans transitioning to civilian life. She used the opportunity in Parliament to stress the importance of safe, stable housing and tailored support for those who have served, saying afterwards:
Those who serve and protect our country deserve to return to good homes. It’s a disgrace that we’ve seen homelessness amongst our veterans rise over the last 14 years.
This week, I shared the work Derventio Housing Trust is doing to tackle homelessness in Derby with the Veterans Minister. It’s absolutely right this government is making it easier and faster for our veterans to access support.
