Growing Lives goes geocaching for Recovery Month

Growing Lives participants went on a geocaching adventure to mark National Recovery Month in September – an opportunity to celebrate the huge personal efforts involved in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Geocaching is described as the world’s largest treasure hunt, with caches placed in all sorts of locations for people to track and find using the free app.

A group of ten participants and staff followed a route starting in the village of Awsworth. They successfully found nine out of ten caches placed in and around the area, including in the centre of the village and further out near Bennerley Viaduct. They worked together to decipher cryptic clues and found some caches in unexpected places including inside a drilled-out stone and under a fake snail!

During the search the group met another person who was also geocaching in the area, and exchanged tips for the local caches they were searching for and had found.

Geocaching is a creative way to work as a team, get outside and explore new areas. Some people taking part had done it before, for others it was a new experience. Since the event, one participant has done more geocaching on his own initiative around Brinsley and Moorgreen Reservoir.
