Celebrating Homeless Sunday

29 Jan 2018

On 28th January we joined together with local agencies Padley, YMCA Derbyshire and Derby Churches Night Shelter to mark Homeless Sunday at Derby Cathedral.

This is the eighth year Homeless Sunday has been marked at Derby Cathedral. The service was presided over by the Right Reverend Dr Alastair Redfern, the Bishop of Derby, and attended by representatives from local homeless organisations, people from the local community, including some who have personal experience of homelessness and some of Derbyshire's key dignitaries.

Homelessness is on the rise locally and across the country, and more and more people are struggling to keep a roof over their head.

The purpose of Homeless Sunday is threefold. It is a way for us to show our concern for the individuals affected by homelessness, challenge the conditions that create it and celebrate work that tackles the problem.

The service was a wonderful opportunity to get together to pray for people who are facing homelessness. You may have spotted some of the media coverage. The service was featured on BBC Radio Derby and BBC East Midlands Today.
