Local butcher donates Christmas turkey to Growing Lives

Growing Lives turkey donated by Holbrook Meat Shop

Growing Lives participants enjoyed an extra special Christmas lunch in December thanks to a turkey donated by Holbrook Meat Shop.

A lot of the people who come to Growing Lives find Christmas a lonely time, and they have little money coming in. This very generous donation of a whole turkey from Holbrook Meat Shop meant we could cook a fabulous traditional Christmas lunch for Growing Lives participants and staff to enjoy together.

We want to say a huge thank you to Jono and everyone at the butchers for making this possible.

Jono Steel of Holbrook Meat Shop said: “It is important for us as a local business to give something back to our community. Growing Lives helps formerly homeless people develop skills to participate in and reconnect with their community and as such is a worthy cause in our eyes. We donate to a range of organisations who work with homeless people such as Street Safe, as well as Derventio Housing Trust – it’s our way of putting something back in.”
